Daegu City was selected as the final winner in the Global Technology Development Project contest, led by the Korea Creative Content Agency, for strengthening the global competitiveness of its avant-garde “Turandot” musical production.
The local production of the musical “Turandot,” which played to a 94% capacity audience at the 5th Daegu International Musical Festival, signed a five-year license to run the production with the Chinese East Broadcasting Ray Group in June 2011. The contract calls for 12 percent in royalty fees.
The Daegu “Turandot” production applies state-of-the-art “cultural technologies” to create a heightened sense of reality and enhance audience engagement. Daegu City said the work was, therefore, selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s “Global Technology Development Project” initiative to raise Korea’s global competitiveness in the cultural contents market.
This cutting-edge version of “Turandot” has been invited to be performed at the closing ceremony for the Dongguan City Musical Festival taking place in January 2012. From August 2012, Chinese actors and Korean producers will take part in staging the Turandot musical in China. The same production will also be performed at the Mexico Musical Festival 2012 and the New York Musical Festival 2014.
