Daegu City yesterday announced the publication of two travel books featuring unique places in the nooks and crannies of Daegu as introduced by Korea’s leading travel writers.

The two publications carry carefully selected articles written by five of Korea’s leading travel writers - written throughout the government’s “Visit Daegu Year 2011” initiative - as well as reviews of Daegu’s best tourist attractions posted on blog sites.

In addition to the two Daegu travel marketing publications, the city said plans are underway to also publish cultural pocket books on the region, in various languages, including English, Chinese, and Japanese, from the perspectives of the local foreign communities. The pocket books will feature tourist attractions, food and dining places, and shopping venues. They will be published by the end of February. Daegu City said these pocket books will be distributed to overseas branches of the Korea Tourism Organization, and other travel-related agencies, for marketing purposes.

The Daegu travel book, “Beautiful! Delicious! Fun!” (or “Meot-Itdae! Mat-Itdae! Jae-Mitdae!” in Korean), carry detailed articles of not-to-miss places that cover the city’s alleyways, the Daegu Bangjja Brassware (Korean bronzeware) Museum, Deongseong-ro, and Daegu food.

The five celebrated travel writers have also published “Eating Right, Having Stylish Fun in Daegu” to uncover places hidden in the nooks and crannies of the city as selected from blog postings that have not yet been formally introduced.

“It’s too bad that many places that can be seen and enjoyed only in Daegu are not very well known,” Yoo Yeon-tae, a member of the Korea Tourism Organization’s “Recommend! Places Worth a Visit” Selection Committee and leisure columnist of the Chosun Ilbo, said. “I hope the books to be published will allow Daegu to raise its profile as a representative travel destination in our country.”
