On June 30, the opening ceremony was held for 'Fashion Jewelry-Specialized Town' in Daegu, equipped with precious metals processing facilities, sales outlets, experience room, design research center, etc.
With designation of the precious metals street in Gyo-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu City, as the Fashion Jewelry Special District on December 6, 2005, construction of the town building commenced in October 2008 and was completed in January 2011.
A total of 198.5 billon won was invested in the eight-story, two-basement-level town building (total floor space: 8,710m2).
Creation of this unique comprehensive precious metals town in Korea, which offers one-stop shopping and exhibition services, is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of the domestic precious metals industry and open a new horizon for the industry as well as stimulating the fashion jewelry sector.
At present, 25 wholesale and retail jewelry stores are located on the first floor of the building, while 28 total fashion, wedding gift and beauty-related stores have announced plans to locate on the second floor. On the third and fourth floors, exhibition & experience rooms, design & technology development room, education room, etc. are planned.
At the exhibition room, about 360 pieces of rare jewelry in 23 categories, including granatus (the birthstone for January), will be showcased to draw public interest.
About 20 precious metals manufacturers will open facilities on the fifth and sixth floors to produce a wide variety of popular jewelry products.
A related city official said, "We expect the opening of this specialized town to increase the general public's awareness of precious metals and to help invigorate the stagnated regional economy, while also bringing synergy effects to stimulate the development of neighboring areas that are lagging behind."
