On August 25 the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) held a roundtable meeting between DCCI member companies and a visiting Cambodian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An.
At the meeting that took place at the Chamber Room of DCCI, explanations were provided to better understand Daegu's specialized industrial structures and economic status, while participants also discussed ways of promoting Daegu-Cambodia economic exchanges and cooperation.
Cambodia has an unlimited growth potential with abundant diverse natural resources, and is a market that has high strategic value as Korea already has an FTA in effect with the country.
Textile-related industries, including sewing businesses, in particular, are highly developed in Cambodia. Therefore, if Korea's technological prowess and Cambodia's human and physical infrastructures are combined efficiently, the result is expected to contribute significantly to the economic development of both countries with strong synergy effects.
With establishment of the 'Daegu-Gyeongbuk Cultural & Trade Exchange Center' in Phnom Penh last year, a foothold was prepared to expand bilateral exchanges in economic sectors as well as culture.
Furthermore, medical service activities of regional hospitals like Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center, Yeungnam University Medical Center, and Daegu Fatima Hospital, and charity activities from students of Daegu University, Daegu Health College, etc. to help Cambodian children also are being staged steadily.
A related official at DCCI said, "The roundtable meeting provided momentum to stimulate cultural and medical exchanges and also to expand economic exchanges further between the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region and Cambodia."
