Stone Buddha, Kyungpook National University

  • Stone Buddha, Kyungpook National University (title image)
Intro :
This seated stone Buddha statue is located in the Kyungpook National University Museum. It is a good example of the Vairocana Buddha statue, which was popular during the late Unified Silla period in the 9th century. The narrow shoulders, flat chest, small body, and shape of the clothing show the common form of the Vairocana Buddha statue of the time. It was created at the same time as the stone Vairocana Buddha statue at the Donghwasa Temple (Treasure No. 244) during the reign of King Gyeongmun of the Silla Kingdom. This Buddha was designated as Treasure No. 335.
